About
Chelsea
Chelsea Jones moves between disciplines to grasp at the things that are hard to say—the fragility of both human communities and ecological systems, the feelings we're not allowed to talk about, and the living world we're all part of. Working across sound installation, experimental music, radio, field recording, and poetry, their practice refuses to stay in one lane, because the things worth paying attention to never do.
Chelsea grew up in Kingsburg, CA, a small raisin farming town in the Central Valley, and has been making things — songs, paintings, recordings, words — for most of their life. They hold an MFA in Digital Arts and New Media from UC Santa Cruz and a BA in French Horn Performance with a Minor in Electronic Music. Their work has been exhibited, performed, and published across multiple contexts, including sound installations at UC Santa Cruz, freelance journalism for Kings River Life Magazine and KFCF, on-air radio hosting at KVPR 89.3 FM, and poetry in various journals and collective zines such as Abridged Magazine, Black Napkin Press, Noctua Review, and others.

The
Practice
Chelsea Jones is a multimedia artist, musician, and writer from California's Central Valley whose work spans multimedia installation, experimental music, traditional arts, creative writing, and journalism. Whether conducting ethnographic interviews for an 8-channel sound piece, hosting local news shows on public radio, or recording lo-fi folk songs on a field recorder, their practice spans disciplines to grapple with witnessing and experiencing the full breadth of existence— from human grief and joy, to systemic violence, to dynamic ecosystems; from the extremely personal and internal, to the community and local, to the entire Earth.
Chelsea holds an MFA in Digital Arts and New Media from UC Santa Cruz and a BA in French Horn Performance and Electronic Music.
Immersive
Installations
My installation practice turns complex human experiences—like grief, social inequality, and community history—into shared, sensory environments. By combining both digital and analog audio engineering with a deeply personal ethnography practice, I build participatory spaces where listeners become an active part of the art. From 8-channel interview collages to evolving, interactive memorials, my work is designed to foster genuine connection and reflection. Whether you are looking for an immersive installation to anchor an exhibition or a custom soundscape that brings a physical space to life, I work with you to create custom experiences that resonate long after they end. Both temporary and permanent pieces, digital and physical installation, custom sound design for your space, and more are all available.
